Microsoft Does the Right Thing

Microsoft is set to integrate ODF (Open Document Format) into Office 2007, thus allowing it to work seamlessly with free office software like OpenOffice.org, AbiWord, KOffice, and others.

As I’ve stated before, I prefer OpenOffice.org to MS Office for a number of reasons though I use both.  AbiWord is a great little word processor that is far superior to MS Works (if all you need is a good word processor you can’t go wrong with AbiWord.  It’s fast, powerful, reads and saves .doc files).

Trouble is, not everyone can afford MS Office so lots of businesses, schools and government offices worldwide have adopted OOo as their productivity suite.  This announcement from Microsoft means that OOo users can now interact (at least relatively) seamlessly with MS Office users.  That is great news!
